Students from Yázigi Boa Vista Language School (group of Saturdays, 8-11am), after visiting the monument under supervision of teacher Vitor de Araújo, wrote the post below in English. I hope you enjoy learning a little bit about O Garimpeiro.

The Gold Diggers, or the Gold Washers

The monument is located in Boa vista (Roraima) and it was built in the 1970s. The gold miners worked there in a period called “Golden miracle” and this statue is a tribute to them.
It’s a fact that this monument has influence over their culture, but nowadays it is not common for people to go there and look closely.

Evaluation of people who visited the place: based on the website www.tripadvisor.com.br
Well Located, Well Cared, Clean and a safe place.
When you contemplate the statue of a prospector in the square, your mind naturally travels in time, in the golden days of the Garimpo, where adventurers in search of a better life have left sweat, tears, and often life itself.

Nice pictures
A large, clean and well-kept square. Good place to take several photos. Access is easy and quiet, as is everything in Boa Vista.

The opinion of those who visited the monument and live in the city:
Student 1: We can have a lot of different opinions, but as a local I can say that this monument is part of our history. In most, it means a historical benchmark and a point that defines the economics.
For the common people it doesn’t have many meanings, but looking with different eyes you will find out that it means a lot to Indians descendants, gold diggers, their families and residents.
Student 2: It was created with the intention of honoring the garimpeiros (gold diggers). And for me is very exciting to see, and to know the historical importance of this monument. And it is something very significant to our state.

Thanks for reading and I hope you go visit the place and learn more about this culture.
